About Me

I am Supratim. My friends call me Naga.

I live in London and after finishing my MBA, am working in a small firm in its IT division. I love building new products, and my new role is just that. I am also an engineer by profession and worked in India before moving here.

In the summer of 2010, I was an MBA aspirant and that is when I started writing this blog. A lot of people who read this blog ask me some typical questions, which I have tried to answer here.

Why MBA ? I wanted to break out of my comfort zone. Also I wanted to move to the UK with my wife and take a break out of work. With an MBA I think I will get the credentials and the much needed confidence to start something from scratch without worrying about failure or finances (!).

What post MBA ? I would love to jump directly into entrepreneurship. But I am keeping my options open to join a consulting company and get some basic grounding.

So where am I now with respect to my aspirations pre-MBA. The answer is – not even close.

If you agree with me and like to congratulate me on my blog feel free to do so at supratims@gmail.com . Be candid with your responses. I can handle infinite amount of applause.

    Hello Supratim,

Congratulations. I also have secured admission on FT MBA at Cranfield for the sept 10 course. :-) Nice to see u here having almost similar feelings abt admission to cranfield.
I wanted to know whether you have done research about the real ROI for the people like us in IT industry. I am working for top MNC in SAP domain. I also have 4 yrs of Ex. But I am not sure about our job prospects post MBA cz of our non management experience.
Another concern is couple of top ranked Unis rejected my application due to my lack of management experience. Some people told me that Unis with high fees accept more number of students cz not all the people who get offer could join the course due to higher fees. Also do u know which electives (specialization) is preferred by students at Cranfield?
I had got very good reviews from ex-students about learning at cranfield. I am just concerned with post MBA job prospects & economy. Do u have some views abt this?
All da best & hope to c u at Cranfield!!!

    Regards,

  2. Hi Supratim

Good to know that you aspiring to do your MBA and start your own business.Well I am also Indian who came into UK 10 yrs back as a student and now have my own immigration consultancy and couple of other businesses in UK running from past 5 years. I am not a MBA graduate but always wanted to complete one and have attended several open days of MBA and at the same time even spoken to lot of MBA graduates being in the profession of Immigration advice but my observation is that you need not have a MBA to become an Entrepreneur as MBA would not teach you anything of how to start your business but it will teach you how to run a business which is already started by someone else.

I have also seen your other posts regarding comparison of Tier 1 Visa with Tier 4 visa but actually did not understand in the first place why is there a comparison as they are 2 different parallel visas which are meant for different purposes

you can email me at anand@personalvisaguide.com if you need any information regarding UK

Yes, an MBA is not indeed needed to start one’s own business. And I totally buy this. I am doing an MBA for other reasons as well, like to improve my professional network, get an international exposure and may be in the end get a job. I would like to start a company (or may be join an existing one) only later on.
Regarding the visa, yes they are meant for different purposes. But a few people were of the opinion to get a tier-1 visa stamped right away so that at the end job search will be expedited.

hi there! I’d like to know how your experience at Cranfield went because I have applied and have an interview coming up. I feel a bit intimidated since I am relatively younger than the average class size (27). My GMAT was 720. Are the students generally competitive or nice to deal with?

Hey Anonymous, what exactly do you want to know about my experience ? Drop me an email and I would love to have a chat. About the competition part, don’t worry about it.
